1 February 2011 –Stedman Corporate Clothing selects Nyumbani Orphanage, Kenya as nominated charity for 2011
Stedman Corporate Clothing Ltd, the corporate uniform and clothing specialists, has announced its designated charity for 2011 as the Nyumbani Orphanage in Kenya. The announcement follows a visit that took place to Africa in late 2010 by key members of the team to see first-hand the inspiring work that is taking place at the orphanage, including its two schools and college.
Nyumbani, which means “home” in Swahili, currently houses 650 children and is growing to accommodate up to 1000. Groups of ten children are looked after by one mother-figure and the orphanage provides primary and secondary schooling, in addition to a polytechical college that teaches students practical skills, such as stone masonry, carpentry and textiles.
Stedman Corporate Clothing is currently coordinating a container shipment of practical items and products to Nyumbani, which could put to use within the schools and college and aid the children’s learning. The donations will include rolls of surplus fabrics, clothing, sportswear, plus useful stationery equipment.
Teresa Stedman, managing director of Stedman Corporate Clothing said: “We spent seven days at Nyumbani and it was inspirational to see the work undertaken to care for the children. The effort they make to provide for the children, both in a family environment and also in an educational capacity, is terrific. We are extremely proud to be supporting the charity for 2011 and believe the donations we are coordinating will greatly benefit the children living in the orphanage.”
